From Penarth to Rio – Book launch 4 August 2016
Club secretary Chris Thau invites you to attend the book launch of his latest volume, “The Olympic quest of Nicolae Juravschi and his companions” on Thursday the 4th of August at 7 pm, in the town’s main bookshop, Griffin Books. The launch of the book in Penarth on the eve of the Opening Ceremony of the 31st Olympics coincides with its presentation in Rio, by former World and Olympic Champion Nicolae Juravschi, so far, the only athlete in history to represent three different countries in the Olympic Games – in 1988 for the then Soviet Union, 1992 for Romania and 1996 for Moldova.
One of the highlights of this unusual tale is the insight it gives into a period of great political turmoil, which led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the impact it had on the country’s elite athletes. The narrative of this illustrated documentary account of Juravschi’s life and fascinating career is based in its entirety on interviews with him and his teammates, coaches and friends, providing an intriguing eye-witness account of life in the fast lane of Olympic sport, during the late 1980s and 1990s.
The book was published by Penarth-based CHT Publishing and it was designed and printed by Beacon Printers in Penarth.
