Penarth RFC Youth – Good Friday
Penarth Youth officials are hoping for a bumper holiday crowd when they play host to a select Cardiff and District Youth select XV at the Athletic Ground on Good Friday.
It has been 32 years since the Barbarians played their last game at the Athletic field over the Easter bank holiday and although It was sad and painful, it was inevitable as their Easter tour schedule had to be initially cut down and eventually abandoned for good when professionalism was introduced into the game.
On Good Friday, the 30th March, the annual fixture is again going to be fulfilled by the extremely talented and successful Penarth Youth side who this year take on a select 15 from the Cardiff and District Youth rugby team, at the Wreck.
The Penarth RFC youth team has taken up the mantle of the Easter game with great vigour, and have achieved some outstanding victories over the Past 5 years on the bank holiday, winning against the Crawshays RFC Youth select team, a Spanish Select XV and previous Cardiff and District Youth teams.
This year has again been a great success for the Penarth team having won 16 out of their 19 games this season and have recently reached the quarter Finals of the Cardiff Blues Cup, which is to be played in the next few weeks.
The Good Friday match has always captured the interest of the people of Penarth and the youth committee are hoping that this year will be no different preparing for a large crowd at the Athletic Field for the match.
