SEASIDERS LOOKING TO TOP THE TABLE
Despite having recorder an astounding 84-0, 14-try win over ninth-placed Rhiwbina, Penarth are still tracking undefeated leaders St.Joseph’s, two points behind. While there’s no sign yet of the Joes getting beaten, the route to the top for the Seasiders may lie in their relentless acquisition of bonus points. They’ve gathered 10 so far, while St.Joseph’s have only 6.
Of course, 14 tries mean Penarth are by far the top scorers in the division with 62 tries out of a total of 388 points from 9 games.
Sixth-placed Abercwmboi ought to be more of a challenge at home, though beaten 47-24 by the Seasiders back in September. The try-scorers that day were: Miles Jones 3, Tom Griffiths 2, Leon Appiah and Evan Jones. The Bois (is that what they call themselves?) have won two and lost two at Aberaman Park.
With Penarth’s game being the only fixture on Saturday, a win would actually put them top of the table, if only temporarily. Then again, with the last weekend’s fixtures before Christmas featuring a home game against Barry for the Seasiders, while St.Joseph’s face a tricky afternoon away at third-placed Rhydyfelin, who knows?
